Things to Remember to Get Ready Before Oral Surgery

Posted on 9/25/2018 by Aaron Vickers
Things to Remember to Get Ready Before Oral Surgery
It is the day before your oral surgery and time to review the instructions we gave you when you scheduled the procedure. It is crucial that you follow the things to remember to get ready before oral surgery.

The reason why this is so important is, so your surgery goes well, and you don't suffer from any complications. Depending on your overall health, we will ask you to do some standard things to prepare for the procedure.

Most oral surgeries are performed as an outpatient procedure which involves local or general anesthesia, depending on your preference and our surgeon's suggestions. In general, operations such as those to remove wisdom teeth are done under general anesthesia to keep young patients comfortable and unconscious of what is going on.

Important Things to Remember Before Oral Surgery

Whether your oral surgery will be inpatient or outpatient, it is still an invasive procedure, and you need to prepare following the instructions you received from our staff.

This includes among other things:

•  Not eating or drinking anything after midnight the day before the surgery
•  Not eating or drinking anything before surgery
•  Arranging for transportation after the surgery
•  Having an adult present at the office during the operation
•  Wearing comfortable clothes
•  Wearing short sleeves to make IV fluid placement easier
•  Not wearing jewelry or makeup
•  Tying long hair
•  Not wearing contact lenses
•  Stocking up on soft foods and nutritious drinks
•  Planning meals

If you have a fever let us know immediately and we can determine if we need to cancel and reschedule. A mild cold or having your period should not interfere with your scheduled surgery.

The most important thing you can do to make your surgery go smoothly and recover quickly is to follow all our pre and post-surgery instructions as given. If you have any concerns or questions, please make sure to ask the surgeon during your consultation or give us a call anytime.
