Stress Management Techniques Can Help Ease Jaw PainIn many cases, jaw pain is caused by stress and anxiety. Stress management techniques can help you ease your jaw pain and improve your quality of life.

If you find yourself clenching your jaw during stressful times, you could be doing the same thing unconsciously while you sleep. This could be the reason for your jaw pain and is one of the leading causes of Temporomandibular Disorder, otherwise referred to as TMD.

Relaxation Techniques to Help Relieve Jaw Pain


There are several relaxation techniques to choose from to help with the symptoms of jaw pain, for those who suffer from stress or are stressed about their painful symptoms. Among them are:

•  Relaxation helps by relaxing the mind and body. It provides a few minutes to focus on the breathing and weight of the body.
•  Meditation forces a person to purposely rest the jaw and release built-up tension in the area. By focusing on breathing in and out, the body lets go of pain signals received by the brain.
•  Massaging the area of the jaw that is painful can help relieve symptoms. However, you must consult with us before using this technique because sometimes a massage can worsen the TMD symptoms.
•  Yoga is beneficial for jaw pain because of the joints affected. If you are stressed, yoga can be a wonderful stress management technique for the entire body.

Using a mouth guard at night can also help to reduce the pain and discomfort of jaw pain, but with any of these stress management techniques, you can't go wrong. Many of them also help relax your entire body, which in turn will allow you to relax your jaw. Tension and stress can cause your jaw pain, but you don't have to live with it and let it affect your quality of life.
